Monday 11th November was a very exciting day in Ballyglass NS. The Parents Association had worked very hard for the last few months collecting book donations, labeling the books, organising them and setting up our school library. The teachers then made posters and arranged the room for the big opening. To celebrate this, Oisin McGann, the well-known author and illustrator, came to speak with the children. First, he talked to Ms. Glynn's infant class. Then he chatted with Mrs. Lynskey's 1st, 2nd and 3rd class and drew an amazing illustration of one of the characters from his stories. After lunch, he met with Mr. Cosgrave's class and told them all about his work as an author. At 1.45pm, all the children came down to the library, along with all the teachers and some of the parents. Ms. Glynn's class said some Nursery Rhmyes. Mrs. Lynskey's class had written about their excitement about the day, and Eoin and Katie read out their stories. Then Iain and Róisín read a poem that they had written with the help of Eamon, Mary and some of the fourth class. Finally, Oisín McGann cut the ribbon and the library was officially open! Everybody cheered!
After that, Mrs. Lynskey's class spent some time looking at all the books in the library, and also at the books that are in the school for the Book Fair this week. They bought lots of books, then went back to their class. Mr. Cosgrave's class got their first library books then bought some Book Fair books as well. It was a great day, and the pictures below show some of the scenes from the day. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, and to all those who helped make today a success.
