We have just finished our Book week in Ballyglass NS. During the week, which was coordinated by Mrs. Lynskey, the children took part in a range of activities which focused on reading and literacy. The children in each of the classes did DEAR time each day (Drop Everything And Read). They also wrote book reviews, stories, made bookmarks, designed book covers, participated in a book table quiz and did reading surveys. Each day the classes visited the Book Fair and bought books for themselves. On Tuesday, the author Eddie Lenihan visited the school and told stories to the children in each of the classrooms. We heard all about his Irish folklore tales and stories from long ago. Finally on Friday, a huge number of the children in the school dressed up as their favourite book character, and at assembly they told the other students who they were and which book they were from. Overall it was a great week, and the children developed their interests in literacy throughout. The video below shows a selection of the photos taken during the week.
