Proclamation Day 15th March 2016

On March 15th 2016, the staff and pupils of Ballyglass NS celebrated Proclamation Day as part of the 1916 celebrations. The celebration took place at 2pm outside in the school grounds on what was a beautiful spring day. Parents, grandparents and family members of the children were in attendance. The children recited the poem 'Mother' and extracts from the Proclamation. Each of the seven signatories of the Proclamation were remembered. The children researched their ancestral links of those who took part in the Rising. These children were asked to step forward and their relatives were also remembered. Members of fifth and sixth class read their Proclamation, which they wrote as part of the 'A Proclamtion for a New Generation' series. Jack Losty was then called upon to raise the tricolour, which was then followed by the singing and playing of Amhrán na bhFiann. Thank you to all the parents and families who attended the celebration and a special thanks to the Parents Association who provided tea, coffee and cakes.
